SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups Reportedly Exempted From Military Enlistment

Korean media reports that SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups is now officially exempted from enlisting in the military.

In a filming schedule in August 2023, S.Coups suffered from a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee, which resulted in the need for surgery and many months of therapy.

The group’s leader had to take a break from group activities, including shows and concerts, and even the recently concluded tvN's 'Nana Tour,’ which featured a vacation in Italy, the group’s first-ever trip to Europe.

The news of his military exemption came shortly after Pledis Entertainment announced S.Coups and Jeonghan's return to group activities in March after months of hiatus due to injury.

Reports say that Pledis Entertainment has already confirmed the news as of March 1.

The agency said, “S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and anterolateral ligament reconstruction due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee joint. Since it was a major surgery, he has been receiving rehabilitation treatment for a long period of time from last year to the present,” and added, “As a result, he was classified as level 5.”

South Korean men who are classified as level 5 or grade 5 are not required to serve the country during peacetime. They are, however, required to perform military support labor in case of a war.
