Hwasa Summoned By Police About Controversial University Performance + P Nation Responds

On September 10th, Korean media outlets reported that the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul summoned Hwasa, who was recently accused of performing obscenity, as a defendant and investigated for about three hours. Earlier, the police also called in the accuser for investigation and gathered videos related to the event, as well as data from TvN.

Through the evidence and data gathered, the police will determine whether the performance is subject to criminal punishment.

An official from P Nation, Hwasa's agency, responded to the reports, saying, "It is true that we were investigated by the police and we are participating faithfully."

Last May 12th, Hwasa performed at the Sungkyunkwan University Festival, as part of TvN's "Dancing Queens on the Road." Her movements during a stage went viral and earned criticisms from some netizens, who accused the singer for obscenity. However, the criticisms didn't just stop online as the Student Parents' Human Rights Protection Solidarity filed a complaint with the police on June 22, saying, "It was an obscene act itself, enough to cause shame and disgust to the public who witnessed it."

They also said, "The university festival site is a place where many general public gather," adding, "The behavior of celebrity Hwasa is a criminal act that seriously affects the general public and teenagers who witnessed it."

Despite the accusations, fans are showing full support toward Hwasa who continues to break boundaries with her music and artistry. Recently, the singer also made a music comeback with her catchy song "I Love My Body," which celebrates body positivity and empowers people from all walks of life.
