On May 6th, Stray Kids attended the Met Gala 2024 as the first-ever K-pop group in history to grace the event.
As this was the Met Gala debut of the group, netizens had been looking forward to their attendance but were left brokenhearted due to the rude treatment that the group received.
@ifenglobal "They look like robots!" Members of the #Kpopgroup#StrayKidswere subjected to racist and rude remarks from the paparazzi at the 2024 #MetGala, sparking outrage among global #fans.#fypシ゚viral#bagchan#changbin#hanjisung#leeknow#felix#seungmin#jeongin #hyunjin#foryou#skz#korea#asian#redcarpet#trending#newyork#fyppppppppppppppppppppppp#trending ♬ original sound - ifenglobal
#MetGala gave the worst photographers to cover that event. that is pure racism and unprofessionalism. what nasty attitude they have. straykids are attendees/celebrities for that event and the photographers disrespect them that way? WTF. pic.twitter.com/5HYSKfzouY

During the photo-op session, Stray Kids members struck poses, however, in the background, the photographers were making rude remarks and were laughing.
This was supposed to be a happy event. We were excited to see Stray Kids take the runway because they are GLOBAL ICONS to have blatant racism, rudeness, and unprofessionalism by so many people in the industry is appalling. This should not have happened.

STRAY KIDS DESERVED… pic.twitter.com/a6EX7sECUh
i’m so so proud of my stray kids, for where they arrived with their talent, their passion for music, and their work, for the professionalism and STRENGTH with which they endure every day unmotivated hatred and racism, they deserve the whole world and I will protect them forever pic.twitter.com/N6VHVsyfs6

This is sickening to watch. I don't follow Stray Kids, but I'm taken back to the paparazzi behavior I've seen towards Bangtan. The same racism. The same mockery. The same demands that they "perform" like circus animals for the white people.

Fuck this. https://t.co/ai68VdFNCr
Some of the remarks stated:
"I've never seen so many unemotional faces in my life"
"They're robots"
"Now, let's do it with feelings"
Fans were left even more heartbroken because multiple members of the group could understand and speak the language fluently such as Felix and Bang Chan who grew up in Australia.
Netizens commented:
- The way Chan handled it though? Flawless
- Me as a recent Stray Kids fan, WHO DARES MOCK THOSE SWEET SQUISHMELLOWS!
- I just discovered Stray Kids recently, and from what I've seen, I believe several of them speak like up to 3+ languages and most are at least bilingual.
- Not only the Stray Kids fandom, but I’ve seen Blinks and Armys speaking up about it
- They served model faces like runway model faces
- I saw a picture of them and didn't know who they were, but thought they looked amazing.
- To anyone saying they weren't on point, an excerpt from Garden of Time: "A tall, imperious figure in a black velvet jacket, a gold tie-pin glinting below his George V beard..."
- That’s so mean why would they say those things
- Paparazzi are jealous because these young men are ridiculously good-looking while they are desperate losers.
- I don’t recall anyone smiling on the carpet for the Met Gala so why single out these amazing talents? The racism is sickening.
- The Met Gala should be ashamed of allowing these photographers at such a prestigious event. They should apologize to Stray Kids and the photographers should never work again.
- They are rude, they don't know Felix and Bangchan understand and speak English fluently because they are half Australian and Korean.
- The manager should be there and protect them! These boys need to be protected, they looked so vulnerable! Gosh... this is so cruel to hear. I love them.
