G-Dragon’s Painting Auction Cancelled, Agency Releases Statement: Not Artist’s Own Submission

G-Dragon’s artwork ‘Youth is Flower’ is scheduled to be auctioned at the 'Contemporary Art Sale' at the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center in Sinsa-dong, Seoul, but is now canceled.

A statement was released through G-Dragon’s agency, Galaxy Entertainment, “After checking with the artist, it was not the artist himself who submitted the product to the auction. The artist has no idea who submitted the work and under what circumstances.”

‘Youth in Flower’ is a painting of daisy flowers, known to symbolize the artist himself. Spray paint and markers were used to create the artwork on the steel panel of the interiors of the 2017 Untitled (GD Cafe). G-Dragon worked on it while he was a brand ambassador for Jeju Shinhwa World in 2017.

The artwork reportedly had an auction starting price of 30 million won or over 22,000 USD.

G-Dragon is a well-known art collector and was named one of the ‘50 Notable Collectors’ by the American art magazine Art News in 2019.
