Despite Winning Lawsuit, IVE's Wonyoung Has More Mountains To Overcome

Popular girl group IVE's Jang Wonyoung and Starship Entertainment declared a strong legal action against fake news and eventually ruled in the first trial, but it's regretful. The victory itself is very meaningful, but there are so many mountains to overcome.

Jang Won-young filed a lawsuit for damages worth 100 million won against A, the operator of the Tadeok camp, in October 2023. The lawsuit was filed in October 2023 in the court, and the court later asked the accused for a response, but as they did not respond, and after a while, the court considered it to have been served and ruled in favor of Jang Won-young.

However, after submitting an appeal against the sentencing result through a legal representative on the 17th, A applied to the court on the 23rd to suspend the execution of the lawsuit, expressing their willingness not to accept Jang Won-young and Starship's strong legal response and subsequent court rulings.

At the same time, while the 50th Seoul Central District Court held a hearing date for a lawsuit for damages worth 100 million won filed by Starship against A, A's lawyer, who attended the hearing, claimed, "It was for public interest purposes and A didn't know the contents were false." It was a brazen point that angered everyone in Jang Won-young's fandom as well as the public.

The Tadeok Camp is a YouTube channel that indiscriminately circulated false facts and malicious rumors, and has been criticized by fans for referring to many K-pop artists, and among them, Starship Entertainment, the agency, started a strong legal response in July 2023 toward the Tadeok Camp, which has brought out severe fake news against Jang Won-young and others.

Thaldok Camp has been notorious as a representative channel that has been criticized for indiscriminately spreading groundless facts and malicious rumors against popular celebrities. Thaldok Camp caused great confusion by using celebrities as scapegoats to increase the number of views and spreading false information. Since then, Starship Entertainment asked for information from the U.S. court (US DISTRIBUTED FOR THE NORTHRN DISTRIBUT OF CALIFORNIA) in May 2023, and announced that it has obtained meaningful information about the operator of Thaldok Camp from Google headquarters in the U.S. With Google's cooperation, it strongly expressed its will to take legal action against Thaldok Camp and won the first victory.

Starship Entertainment said, "We have been conducting civil and criminal lawsuits and lawsuits abroad since November 2022 against the Taldeok Camp, which has consistently harassed our artists," adding, "The Taldeok Camp has not only seriously defamed us through the continuous dissemination of false information, but also caused serious pain to our artists and fans. We are doing our best to hold civil and criminal liability to the end through the ongoing lawsuit."

Although Starship and Jang Won-young's will to respond to the legal action is clear, it is not likely that the lawsuit will be solved as easily as we think. It is more pointed out that it is not because A's argument is persuasive or because Jang Won-young's argument does not make sense, but because of the frustration of going through legal procedures.

Apart from this, Starship and Jang Won-young have already stepped up to claim damages against A, spending a lot of time collecting evidence for this. The winning time of the first trial was more than a year after filing the lawsuit. It took at least a year to prove that the numerous videos A created through the Tadeok camp were false news. This alone seems to have been a tremendous time of pain for the litigant.

What's more speechless is after winning the Jang Won-young lawsuit. The court ended the first date of the lawsuit filed by Starship on the 24th, not by Jang Won-young, and set the next date as April, three months later. In response, lawyer Chung Kyung-seok told Star News that the Ministry of Justice's personnel issues are held at the beginning of each year as to why the next date will be until April. As the court personnel season usually takes place in February, internal personnel changes occur, which leads to a change in the court's personnel affairs, which leads to a change in the court's department in charge of the case. In fact, a reporter also covered various trials and experienced several delays in proceedings due to the replacement of the court. Of course, it is not wrong in itself, but from the standpoint of filing a lawsuit, it is inevitably regarded as an unexpected obstacle that emerged at a time when it should be continued to completely and well. In many ways, Jang Won-young has no choice but to wait.
