In a video called ‘REVERSE : BREAKING THE SILENCE’ uploaded to his YouTube channel, Kim Woojin shared details of his current activities and finally broke his silence about past controversies.
Woojin shared, “I practice, produce songs, write lyrics, learn new choreography, study English, and work out. I think I have to be prepared at all times to seize the given opportunity. That’s how I spend my days. I have maintained this lifestyle, and it has impacted my personality and attitude towards my job.”
The singer spoke about the difference between his work in the past and today, “Back then, I focused on the listeners’ preferences rather than my personal storytelling in my music. But nowadays, I’m prioritizing my personal storytelling.”
He shared, “After experiencing that nonsense, I decided to speak more clearly about myself. It was such a peculiar case, so I ignored it, which intensified the seriousness.”
“It was quite shocking. They make irresponsible comments and do not listen to my words. I felt quite frustrated by that whole situation,” Woojin further explained. “From now on, if I have to speak up, I decided to deliver my thoughts more clearly.”
He took the opportunity to apologize, “In the past, after leaving the team like that, I feel terribly sorry about it. Back then, I was still young. I focused on my situation first. Although it’s a bit late, I would like to apologize to all the people who were hurt by that incident. I would like to express my deep apologies.”
Woojin also shared his plans for his music moving forward, “I want to talk about myself in my songs now. Every hardship has its phase, right? I believe that showing sympathy through music can bring solace.”
He concluded the video by saying, “It might sound a bit too cliche, but I want to be a singer that makes sympathetic music and brings comfort.”
Since the video didn’t exactly mention specific information about the past controversies, viewers rightfully assumed that he was speaking about Stray Kids. Many of his fans were quick to defend him by explaining the situation. Some of the comments were:
"Do you understand he’s apologizing because he left (his) group when everything was ready for the comeback? The album, photo, choreography, their tour … and this decision gave a hard time for the others. And the people who started those fake rumors are the one who owe him a BIG apology."
"Everything happens for a reason, if he didn't leave, it would have affected him, and he knew that that's why he left. He did nothing wrong with choosing his health. And also, if he didn't become a soloist, we would never have gotten to listen to his beautiful songs, that just ascend me to heaven."
"This hurts, and the fact that no matter how many times he explains himself there will be people hating on him just for doing what was best for him... He'll always have my support!"
"No. The apology is not for STAY, it was for Stray Kids. Woojin is apologizing for leaving when they needed him because its what he thought was best. I am neutral with him but whatever you believe, it is SO immature to continue hating him and having him suffer."
"It hurts knowing that there will be people who still don't understand Woojin's perspective. I'm glad that I have found this special little place. I will always support you and what you do! I absolutely love your voice and your style of singing!"
Woojin debuted as Stray Kids’ main vocalist in 2018. He left the group in October 2019. JYP Entertainment released a statement about his withdrawal, “Woojin, who has been with Stray Kids as a member until this time, has left the group due to personal circumstances and terminated his exclusive contract.”
He recently celebrated his 3rd debut anniversary as a solo artist and addressed his fans, the CUBS, on SNS.

Woojin is currently signed with Kustomade, a label under SM Entertainment’s Kreation Music Rights (KMR). On March 25, his label announced Woojin’s comeback this April.
