"Don't Go..." Koreans React to BTS Suga's Enlistment News

BTS's Suga (real name Min Yoongi) will serve in the military after Jin and J-Hope.

According to his agency Big Hit Music on the 17th, Suga will enlist on the 22nd and work as a substitute for social service. There is no separate official event on the day of service and the day of admission to the training center.

Suga, born in 1993, had postponed his enlistment until the end of this year after being recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to postpone his enlistment under the revised Military Service Act in 2020. However, Suga applied for the cancellation of the postponement of his enlistment last month to fulfill his mandatory military service.

Unlike other members, Suga was judged to enlist as a social worker last year. The reason for this has not been officially disclosed, but it appears to be related to surgery in 2020 to suture the ruptured joint and suture of the shoulder area.

Big Hit Music said, "We ask you to refrain from visiting the workplace during Suga's alternative service period, considering the characteristics of social service personnel who serve in public institutions with many contacts with civilians, not military units. "We ask you to send off and encourage Suga only with your heart," they added.

BTS began its military service in December last year, starting with the enlistment of Jin, the oldest member of the team. Jin is currently working as an assistant at the boot camp after completing basic military training.

The second member to fulfill the duty of national defense is J-Hope. He entered the Army's 36th Division boot camp in Wonju, Gangwon Province, in April. At the time, J-Hope said on his personal SNS, "I'll be healthy and well," and through a live broadcast, "Don't be too disappointed." He comforted fans around the world by saying, "I'm fulfilling my duty as one of the strong young people of Korea, so I'll be healthy and come back safely."

Suga released his solo album "D-DAY" in April under the name Agust D. On the day of the album's release, it sold more than 1.07 million copies based on the Hanteo Chart, breaking the record of K-pop solo singers at the time.

In addition, "D-DAY" ranked second on the U.S. Billboard Album Chart "Billboard 200," and the title song "Haegeum" ranked 58th on the Billboard Single Chart "Hot 100."

In August, the encore concert "SUGA | Agust D TOUR 'D-DAY' THE FINAL" was held at KSPO DOME (formerly Olympic Gymnastics Stadium) in Songpa-gu, Seoul for a total of three days and marked the end of the "D-DAY" tour that has continued since April. "D-DAY" is a performance that captures his identity between Suga and Agust D, focusing on his solo album of the same name and the songs from his existing mixtapes "Agust D" and "D-2."
