Artist Spotlight: Interview With BABYS

New Kpop trio unlocked!

Meet BABYS, a South Korean girl group consisting of leader Seoyu, vocalist Yeseo, and maknae Suyeon. In June 2023, they made their entry to the Kpop scene with their debut digital single, “Unlock it."



‘Unlock it’ is described as a hiphop song with addictive riffs and an easy-to-follow melody, which ultimately helps convey the story of a woman who has fallen deeply in love and hopes to catch the attention of the object of her affection.

Meanwhile, the meaning of their group name, BABYS, is to break away from bias and prejudice, aiming to express one’s pureness and freedom, just like a baby would.

Just recently, we had the opportunity to have them for an interview.

Congratulations on your debut! From hardworking trainees, you are now a rookie Kpop girl group. Has there been any change in your lives since debuting?

Seoyu: We are happy to perform with our music and choreography. It's amazing that there are people who like and follow our music.
Yeseo: I can't believe that there are many people who are interested in us and support us. I feel reassured.
Suyeon: I think the biggest change is that there are people who like me, support me, and wait for me.

Since becoming idols, what has been your favorite moment so far?

Seoyu: It was really nice when the audience was happy while singing and dancing to our debut song "Unlock It".
Yeseo: I was the happiest when the audience sang "Unlock It" together.
Suyeon: It was the best when we performed our song for the first time.

Have you always dreamed of becoming an idol? What made you pursue the idol path?

Seoyu: I've dreamed of it since I was very young, but I didn't think it would be possible. I just kept doing it because I liked being on stage, but I'm happy to make my dream come true.
Yeseo: It's something I've longed for in my heart, but I really didn't expect it to come true.
Suyeon: Since I was young, my dream was to be an idol.

Who is your role model in the Kpop industry?

Seoyu: BTS and BLACKPINK. I want to be a singer who sends a warm message to the world and comforts people.
Yeseo: I want to be an artist who is trendy like BLACKPINK and has its own color.
Suyeon: I support and like the group CRAVITY. I want us to become a group that grows by uniting each other like CRAVITY.

The three of you look so happy while doing dance challenges. If given the chance, who would you like to do a dance challenge with?

Seoyu: ‘Benson’ is an artist I’m into because of his warm and pure appearance and heart-touching songs. I think I would be very happy if we did the Unlock It challenge together^^
Yeseo: BLACKPINK. I think it would be nice to dance with the people I admire.
Suyeon: I'm happy to do our challenge with anyone, but I think I'll be even happier if I do it with my favorite group, 'Cravity'.

What concept would you like to try in the future?

Seoyu: I want to try an unconventional concept like Britney Spears, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj.
Yeseo: It's not specific, but I want to try a unique and difficult concept where people will be shocked and say something like, "It's my first time seeing it, but it's the best!"
Suyeon: I want to try a refreshing concept that I've never done before.

Besides performing on stage, are there other activities you would like to try in the future?

Seoyu: In the future, I want to run a support organization. I also want to learn acting and appear in movies and dramas.
Yeseo: I like writing lyrics. I want to study composition more and create songs of various genres.
Suyeon: I still want to focus more on performing on stage, but I also want to try acting in the distant future.
