PSY's "Gangnam Style" Is The First K-pop MV To Hit 5 Billion Views

Singer PSY's music video for "Gangnam Style" surpassed 5 billion views on YouTube for the first time in K-pop.



According to the agency P Nation, the music video for "Gangnam Style" posted on Psy's official YouTube set a milestone of reaching 5 billion and 25 million views on the 30th (as of 1 p.m.).

"Gangnam Style" is the title track of Psy's sixth studio album "Psy6 甲 Part 1," released in July 2012, and is a megahit that gave Psy the milestone of being the first K-pop singer to rank second on the Billboard main chart HOT 100 for seven weeks.

The music video for "Gangnam Style" became the first YouTube content to surpass 1 billion views and 2 billion views, changing the way YouTube views are counted. In addition, the number of views has been steadily rising for 11 years, leaving an unusual record.

In addition to "Gangnam Style," Psy is also showing overwhelming power on YouTube with a number of hits released, including 1.5 billion for "Gentleman," 820 million for "Oppa Is Just My Style," 360 million for "HANGOVER," 700 million for "DADDY," 290 million for "New Face," and 130 million views for "I LUV IT."

Psy said through his agency, "On the first day I achieved 10 million views, I had a big celebration with my colleagues and dreamed of 50 million views," adding, "I'm 100 times happier than I ever dreamed."
