TVXQ! Say It's Not Easy To Celebrate the 20th Anniversary in Kpop

TVXQ! released their new album and title track "Rebel".

"20th anniversary? It's never going to be easy. But I hope there are more people who are doing it for a long time."

This is what TVXQ!, a group that celebrates its 20th anniversary, said to their juniors. Those who described it as "the coming-of-age ceremony as a team" did not easily look forward to the next 20 years. However, they vowed that their will to run faithfully and steadily will not change.

TVXQ! held a press conference to commemorate the release of its ninth full-length album "20&2" at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 26th.

U-Know said, "It's been 20 years since TVXQ! is celebrating their coming-of-age ceremony. Looking back, I was able to come here because many staff members supported me in the back." Choi Chang-min added, "Because there are not many groups that celebrate their 20th anniversary as singers, TVXQ!'s 20th anniversary is more special."

It is the first time in five years that TVXQ! has released a full-length album. Its ninth full-length album, 20&2, includes 10 songs including its title track, "Rebel." "Looking back over the past 20 years, we talked about how the two members will perform in the future," U-Know explained about the album.

The title song, "Rebel," is a dance song with an intense drum beat and a heavy synth base that creates explosive energy, and features a dramatic sound transition led by U-Know and Choi Chang-min's solid vocals over a rhythmic track. In particular, the lyrics project the path that TVXQ! has taken and suggest a direction to move forward. It contains the message that "the true rebel of an era is not just a simple opposition to existing ideas, but a person who pushes his beliefs without being shaken."

Choi Chang-min said, "The title song 'Rebel' has a meaning of resistance, and it means that we can be stagnant on a specific path because we have been active for 20 years rather than the intense feeling of that meaning, but let's resist it." He stressed, "You will be able to feel the current music and the musicality that goes forward to match the message."

U-Know Yunho said, "It's a TVXQ-like song that contains our own interpretation rather than ideological rebellion."

The music video for the title song stands out in a unique composition as a strong group of performances. "From the process of selecting the title song, we decided that the song could have the most intense and dynamic energy," said Changmin, expressing confidence, "There are scenes where I perform with about 30 dancers, so please look forward to it."

U-Know Yunho also said, "There is a new part of this music video. TVXQ!, a group that suits the suit, also showed trendy looks, and I prepared them thinking about how the public would accept them."

The comeback was even more special for TVXQ as they celebrated their 20th anniversary. Debuting with their single "HUG" in 2004, they left behind a slew of hit songs including "Rising Sun," "I Believe," "Balloon," and "MIROTIC." With their fifth full-length album "Keep Your Head Down" in January 2011, they announced a successful start as a duo from the previous five, and continued their successful moves as a male duo with "Catch Me," "Something", and "Spellbound".

U-Know called TVXQ! a "wine-like group" and said, "Doesn't wine taste and smell grow deeper as it ages? I think TVXQ! also exudes our taste and taste more as time goes by. I think that's what's left behind on the stage more brightly and subtly."

He has also renewed his commitment to continue running while focusing on the present. "At first, I thought of running like a red horse. I think it's important to run leisurely and steadily now," U-Know said. "I will not stop at the fact that I am an active player, seeing senior players like Cho Yong-pil, Na Hoon-ah, Nam Jin-jin and Park Jin-young."

Choi Chang-min added, "I think I should successfully finish the year-end concert in front of me rather than thinking of a big and far goal," adding, "I will become a singer who successfully finishes the concert scheduled for this week and breathes for a long time."

TVXQ!'s ninth full-length album "20&2" was released at 6 p.m. on the same day. The concert will be held at the Inspire Arena, a K-pop arena in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, from the 30th to the 31st.
